Hey y'all! Watch THIS!
You know, it dawned on me the other day. I have been living in Alabama for the last 4 years now, after moving to everything southern from my home in Orlando, FL back in 2003.
With the approach of my 10 year reunion next weekend, I've been doing a lot of reflecting (besides worrying that I'm the Old Maid of my classmates and still chasing my dream of being a "racecar driver"). If you would have asked me 10 years ago where I'd be for the reunion, the LAST place I would've said would have been in the rural mountains of Northern Alabama.
But here I am, loving my little piece of country in Grant, AL. For a long time, I still called Florida "HOME", never really feeling like I belonged. Not sure when that changed, but now I like looking out my front porch into the pasture, and climbing the mountain to come home everyday from work.
Friday night took it to a whole new level though. I did the ultimate in redneck initiations.... I went muddin in the woods on quads with fellow racer Greg Hines and his family. When I got the call that we were going "4-wheelin", I wasn't really sure what to think. Okay, you just ride around on quads in the woods and drink beer? I had no clue how much fun it could be though! There were about 15 of us out there on everything from Polaris Razrs to Yamaha Rhinos and every other quad you can think of. I don't even know what kind I was riding, but it was pretty powerful, and it didn't get stuck very easy, so I was pretty lucky.
About 10 minutes out on the ride, I managed to get waist deep and turned over sideways in mud. Got out okay, but it was good, squwishy times. We had 2 or three of the big mules get stuck, and the Razr popped the bead on the tire and went flat, but Greg came prepared with an air pump, so away we went.I felt so Gretchen Wilson, y'all!
The trails were beautiful. Once we got through the mud, we ended up overlooking Redstone Arsenal across the river, before heading up the trails and up the mountain until we got to the top and the view was amazing.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera, and my cell phone isn't the best with midnight moonlight, so these were the best I could do.
